A Great Start for CM2!

CM2 have started the year really well, and I've been very happy with their attitudes and application to their classwork. They've already started producing some good work in Art Class and this week they'll be using their artwork to help inspire their writing. The work's looking really good, so we may put on an exhibition in the atrium. I'll let you know if this is the case!

In Maths class, CM2 have begun exploring geometry. Most of them are familiar with the basic shapes, but they will be expanding their knowledge of all the polygons up to about 12 sides (dodecagon). They will also be learning about all the different lines and properties involved in geometry. Supplementary to this, they still have a 'Maths Morning' on Wednesday, when they work on maths problem-solving and word problems.

This year, maths class is broken-up into stations. This gives them a wider range of activities to complete, and it also allows me to differentiate with greater ease. Usually the stations are broken down like this: 1) Small group work with me, 2) Independent application of the small group work skills, 3) Online activities to reinforce the skills, 4) Creative - An activity that makes them think and apply the skills in a new way. Here they are hard at work at their stations:

My apologies for not updating on Friday. As I stated in the parents-teachers meeting, I shall mainly be updating this blog every Friday. Also, we should have Seasaw up and running in the next week, so this will allow you to get a good idea of what you're child has been doing each week at school. Stay tuned!
